National Day of Action

Friday 15 March

We held a national day of action at Labor MP’s and Senators offices across the country, where we lay down together to symbolise the loss of more than 30,000 Palestinians lives to the Israeli genocide. Join us in demanding the Australian government to take stronger action to end the genocide.

On Friday 15 March, FREE PALESTINE NEWCASTLE joined with groups around so-called Australia, holding DIE-INS at the offices of our LABOR MPs and Senators.

WE DEMANDED the END TO ALL AUSTRALIAN MILITARY CONTRACTS WITH ISRAEL & an immediate and permanent CEASEFIRE.

Our comrades included Little Palestine at Albanese’s office in Marrickville who have been holding a 24-hour peaceful protest for the last 6 weeks, as well as Bathurst, Blue Mountains, Tweed Heads, Hume, Bega, Central Coast and Lismore.

Since 2019 Australia has exported arms and ammunition to Israel totaling $13m, including $2.3m in 2022, according to trade figures from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Over a similar period of time, 322 Weapons Export Permits have been granted to export Australian made weapons, including parts and components, to Israel.

Under the legislated conditions set out under Weapons Export Permits, it is unlawful to export weapons which may contribute to human rights violations or further destabilisation of a region. Australia also has international obligations.

While the Australian government has denied exporting ‘weapons’ to Israel since the beginning of the Israel and Palestinian war. It has made no mention of whether parts, components, ammunition, and ground support equipment have continued to be exported to Israel.
